Here is an Email I recieved tonight regarding Leonard's health. I've been in contact with Family and Alvin, Leonard's best friend. Please keep Leonard and his family in your prayers.. It would be best not to Visit Leonard yet as to keep from spreading germs or hindering his healing. When the Time is right I'll setup a group visit with Sukyi and Alvin.
Dave
FWD:
Dave,
Sorry, I have not had very much time on my home email lately. Here is the latest:
Just got back from St Josephs. Leonard was moved there Sunday evening, Monday morning. He is responding much better over there. Today, he was able to move his right arm, fingers and right foot and toes even more than on the weekend. He could move his head and track sounds in the room. He was able to answer some yes/no questions. I asked him if he could squeeze my hand and the bugger was able to squeeze hard enough to hurt. When asked by the nurse if he could recognize me or Sukyi, he answered no... I am not sure if he was pulling our legs or not. Time will tell. The great news is he was breathing unassisted when I arrived this afternoon. He was entirely off of the seditives. Eyes were open and tracking. They were planning on doing some tests on his heart (to see if the hole they found last week is the cause of the blood clots they have found and the ones that cased the strokes). They were planning on taking out the ventilator tube today (at least as a test to see how he responds)
They (St Josephs) were able to confirm that he had multiple small strokes. Currently he is not able to move his left arm nor left leg. Time will tell if this is more perminant or temporary. He made HUGE improvements from yesterday.... and yesterday was an improvement from Sunday...
Over the weekend, Merci Gilbert was working toward getting
him off of the ventilator. He was breathing unassisted (in a monitored
state) for 2 hours on Saturday and then again for 4.5 hours on Sunday. His sedation was removed before each of these periods. His blood pressure was an issue making it difficult to get him completely off of
sedation. Saturday he was moving his right arm and right leg somewhat
(voluntarily or involuntarily was being analyzed by the neurology experts).
Late Saturday morning they worked to prep him for another CAT scan. On Sunday morning, as the sedative worked its way out of his system his
movement began again. He started with movements like Saturday, however that progressed and when he was asked to wiggle his toes and fingers on each foot and hand he moved his toes on his right foot when asked and his fingers on his right hand when asked!
Please go ahead and spread the word to his friends. Again, he is not out of the woods, so keep the prayers coming!!!!
He is doing well in all aspects; blood pressure, temperature, oxygen inhalation etc. He came off of the Ventilator on Wednesday. Thursday he started Physical Therapy. Over the weekend the feeding tube was removed and he started eating on his own. His right side seems to be doing well. He has slowly started using the left side of his body more and more (he has movement in both his left foot and left arm and able to lift his left leg). On Saturday he was moved to a regular ward from ICU. Physical Therapy will resume today…
If anyone is planning to visit him, please be prepared that his visitors have to go in wearing protective gown/mask/gloves. This is as a precaution for Leonard as his WBC count seems to be lower than normal. In other words, if you think you are sick and NOT close to being 100% perfect even if it is a common cold...please wait for a few days before you visit him.
Leonard has been extubated. He
is doing much better. He is slowly regaining his mobility. He will
probably be discharged from St. Joseph's hospital within a day or two to
a rehab facility.
He has his personal cell phone with him if you would like to visit by
phone. He won't be using the ham radio yet. (he does not have one in his
possession)
