That same ham called me up at the restaurant and I called Kathy who was in Iowa, I think, and told her what happened, and that everyone was ok. I also tried calling others.

I don't remember that other ham's name.

Yep, that was a fun trip and luckily everyone made it out ok. We learned a few things from that trip. It was to Red Creek in Sept. 2007. I think there were 12-14 vehicles. There was quite a bit of water going in, but nothing really deep. We got to the Verde River around noon and started eating lunch. The plan for most of the group was to camp over night and return on Sunday. There were 4 vehicles that were not going to camp. As we were eating lunch, it started raining really hard. I was with the group of 4 that was not camping and we decided to hightail it out of there. We made it out not 10-20 minutes before the flash flooding became intense.

Last Sept. I was still working on getting my ham ticket. I took the technician test 2 weeks after this on Oct. 6. At the time, Dave KE7NEG was the only ham in the group. He got on the Mt. Ord repeater and another ham called our cell phones to see if we made it out ok. Problem was we were out of cell phone range and it wasn't until around 7pm when we got back into Cave Creek. I called the other ham back and he was able to relay to Dave and the camping group that we made it out safely.

I was already planning on getting my license and did 2 weeks later. Steve, who's voice is on the video, and Preston got their Tech. licenses later just because of this situation.
